Hair loss – I’m here to help!
You feel as good as your hair looks – this has been my mantra during my many years as a hairdresser.
Our hair makes us feel better about ourselves, but when things start to go wrong it has a big impact on us psychologically. The result? Loss of self-esteem, embarrassment, anxiety and even depression.
Hair loss is experienced by many of us and very few manage to escape the problem at some time during our lives. It can have many possible causes – it may be genetic, hormonal, nutritional, infection related, a result of medication, stress, or many others. It’s important to realise that hair loss doesn’t just happen, it’s usually a symptom of an underlying problem.
It’s also important to realise that with the right diagnosis and treatment, hair loss problems can be addressed – sometimes it just needs someone you can talk to! You can get in touch with Rita

So what can you do about it?
There are many over-the-counter products that claim to thicken and help hair grow but I can assure you that ‘there is no magic in a bottle’.
The cause, or causes, of hair loss need to be diagnosed accurately and sympathetically on a personal basis in order for the appropriate treatment plan and general hair care advice to be recommended.
This is where I can help. I’m a trained and qualified Trichologist. Trichologists specialise in examining and diagnosing hair and scalp disorders, including hair loss.
What happens if you make an appointment to see me for a consultation?
First, I’ll suggest we have a telephone conversation so I can take a brief history of the problem, and we can arrange a convenient time for a face-to-face consultation. A typical face- face consultation will last between 45 and 75 minutes.
This will be followed up by an email from me with a pre-consultation form attached which I’ll ask you to complete and return at least 3 days before your appointment. This will give me some more information about you, your health and the problem you’re concerned about.
At the consultation itself, we’ll go through the pre-consultation form together and discuss your medical history, lifestyle and your concerns regarding your hair or scalp
If necessary I’ll then examine your hair and scalp using a technique called trichoscopy. This involves shining a high powered magnifying camera on the scalp and hair, which allows me to examine the hair and scalp in great detail.
I should then be able to make a preliminary diagnosis, explain that to you, and make a recommendation as to a treatment plan and whether you should be referred for further assessment,
(i.e.) GP, dermatologist nutritionist
On some occasions, I may need to arrange for further tests to be made to confirm or complete the preliminary diagnosis. It may also be necessary for me to do some further research, depending on the severity of the condition I’ve found.
In any case, I will always follow up the initial consultation to ensure you are making progress and are happy with the advice so far. Further follow up consultations(30-45mins) may be necessary, depending on the nature of the condition.
Please be aware that there are some conditions that are not curable, but with correct identification and treatment, and application of appropriate products, they can improve and become manageable.
Pre-consultation tips
- Please do not wash your hair for a couple of days before your consultation appointment.
- Please do not add any camouflage treatments to the hair.
- Bring a list of medications you have been on in the past, and are currently on, including supplements.
- Think about when the problem started and if anything particular was happening in your life at that time.
